Samenvatting
A central question of the social sciences is the degree to which individual behavior -- achievement -- is a product of interaction between individual & structural factors. Theoretical aspects of this question are explored, & three multilevel models are compared through secondary analysis of longitudinal data from 364 pupils in 24 school classes: a covariance model, a contextual model, & an endogenous feedback model. Evidence is found for substantial effects of social interaction with classmates on individual achievement. The endogenous feedback model is evaluated as a powerful tool for analysis of contextual effects on individual achievement. 4 Tables, 2 Figures, 42 References. Modified HA
