Samenvatting

An explanation of "absolutist" models of interpretation, ie, "technological determinism" (work determined by technology itself), & the more recent labor process approach (work determined by the supposedly strict economical &/or political rationality in investment decisions). It is believed that a more relativist approach, in which no apriorisms are stated on the nature of social actors' logics of action, can increase the heuristic value of that model. Data are analyzed from 2 case studies on the introduction of computerized numerical control in Flanders; both were focused on characteristics of the investment decision-making processes & on the impact of technological innovation on quality of work. 2 Tables, 47 References.
