Samenvatting
An examination of differences in general self-esteem between adolescents of ethnic minorities & Dutch adolescents. Attention is focused on the reflected appraisal process. For adolescents of ethnic minorities, there is a significant relation between general self-esteem & the perceived evaluation of family members, however, such a relation does not exist with nonfamily members. For Dutch adolescents, the results are the opposite; ie, self-esteem is affected by the perceived evaluation of nonfamily, rather than family members. These results suggest why adolescents of ethnic minorities do not have lower general self-esteem, despite low status, prejudice, & discrimination. 1 Table, 14 References. Modified HA
