The impact of agricultural transformation, labor migration, & tourism on Andalusian Ru social structure & life conditions is discussed, focusing on the village of Arriate. Traditional institutions of protection, eg, patronage & corporate family ties, are reconsidered against the background of changing economic conditions. It is shown that, in a setting of geographical mobility & occupational multiplicity, the strategies of the worker-peasants are based on the resources of their own labor, horizontal bonds of cooperation with fellow laborers in the village, & affinal sets dominated by brothers-in-law. 11 References.
