Samenvatting
The effectiveness of political parties, conceptualized as goal-directed social systems, is analyzed from the theoretical perspective of the sociology of organizations, particularly the contingency model for the assessment of organizational effectiveness. The instrumental goals of seeking electoral success & political power are examined, & several hypotheses based on Kenneth Janda's comparative data (Political Parties, A Cross-National Survey, New York: Free Press, 1980) are tested. The usefulness of the theoretical approach for a comparative study of political parties is discussed. 2 Tables, 4 Figures, 1 Appendix, 55 References. Modified HA
