Samenvatting

An analysis of the network of advisory boards on Dutch nuclear energy policy. Until the mid-1970s, these were primarily composed of directors from industrial organizations or electricity companies engaged in nuclear activities. However, with growing public concern about nuclear risks, representatives of the antinuclear movement began to assume board positions & replace these industrial representatives. The Ministry of Economic Affairs gained a dominant position in nuclear energy policy making during the severe economic recession of the 1980s, & rejected all policy advice not supportive of its own pronuclear energy position. It is concluded that the democratic structure of these advisory councils has become irrelevant & that the antinuclear energy movement has been outplayed. 4 Tables, 3 Figures, 18 References.
