intergenerational occupational mobility, Dutch men, data analysis issues
Samenvatting
It is argued that the overall association within the classical intergenerational occupational mobility table covers mobility processes occurring in very distinct time periods, so that differences between mobility tables sampled at different time points have no straightforward interpretation, & cannot be related to changes in the openness of a society in a specific period. An empirical analysis on a dataset with information on complete occupational careers & exact events of 427 Dutch men suggests an absence of societal changes in the Netherlands. 7 Tables, 2 Figures, 16 References.
