A study of how Dutch citizens spend their time is presented based on data from the Central Bureau for Statistics (see Overzicht van de tijdbesteding in 1985 [Overview of Time Distribution in 1985], The Hague: State Publishing House, 1987). The distinction is made between necessary time (sleeping, eating, personal grooming), contractual time (professional & educational activity), & compromised time (devoted to child care, volunteerism, or other activities resulting from personal choices & commitments). Comparison with official data from 1962 reveals a decrease in the number of working hours among youth due to increased un- & underemployment. 1 Table, 1 Figure, 6 References. M. Meeks
