Samenvatting

The quality of scientific performance should be distinguished from scientific activity, productivity, & enlightenment. Here, questionnaire data from scientists (N = 70, 50% Dutch) on the quality of specific research projects are contrasted with bibliographic coverage of the projects. Findings indicate that, while the Social Sciences Citation Index gives reasonable to excellent coverage of core journals in internationally oriented disciplines, the coverage of a locally oriented discipline such as Dutch public administration is dismal. The integration of bibliometric indicators & peer review in evaluation processes of research performance is discussed. 6 Tables, 21 References. Modified HA
