The process of restructuring educ'al instit's (viz, the U) is necessarily proceeding slowly & with difficulty, because: (A) goals & expectations are diffuse & implicit, & (B) restructuring the U meams also restructuring society. Soc sci could facilitate the discussions by clearing up the goals & expectations. A typology of educ'al org is possible, in which 2 types of references are contrasted: (1) the professional model focusing on "expertness," with a hierarchical structure, & (2) multi-functionality with a 'multihierarchical' structure. The latter structure is better adapted to the new type of student & will open possibilities for spontaneity, flexibility & creativity. Educ by interdisciplinary projects could be the org'al structure to effectuate the self-determination model of educ. AA.
