The starting point of the article is the well known thesis of M. Weber about the selective affinity between Calvinism & capitalism. Weber supposes a relation between SE activity & the uncertainty about his election & salvation which should characterize the Calvinist. An investigation of the religious worldview of one of the more conservative variants of Dutch Calvinism shows, however, that this relation is not so selfevident as Weber supposes, for the members of the 'Old-Reformed' Calvinist groups are mostly uncertain about their election & very passive in their SE behavior. They do not believe that success in business & society proves one's election. Only the right religious experience can give certainty. A short comparison with another variant of Dutch Calvinism-the 'Reformed' Churches-shows that Calvinists who are more certain about their election are more active in business, society & pol. Members of this variant of Calvinsim org'ed Christian pol'al parties, Sch's, a U & many org's. They struggled for emancipation of their group in the liberal society of the 19th cent. They belong now to the comfortable Me while the 'Old Reformed' remained mostly Lc people. AA.
