Concepts & definitions of authority & a model of the legitimation of authority

In defining the concept of "authority," it is preferable to state that "the one who has authority has the possibility to exercise authority over a subordinate in authority with whom he has a relation of authority." This concept is related to, but not identical with: influence, exercise of power, dominance, exercise of authority, relation of authority, & leadership, which are also defined. Legitimization of a relation of authority has a soc & a personal component. The abstract notion of a relation of authority is specified in a model which focuses on 2 levels of legitimation: (A) the microlevel which is the level of the dyadic relation of authority, & (B) the mesolevel which is the level of the system of authority. With regard to the grounds to legitimate authority, the typology by M. Weber, T. Parsons (legal, traditional, charismatic, functional) can be mentioned; this typology is commented upon by many authors. AA.
