Het priesterambt als een professie? De consequenties van een voorstel

An examination of the proposal that the Roman Catholic priesthood should become a recognized profession, with special reference to the Netherlands. This proposal was made by G. Schreuder who argues that the SS of the priests would thus be raised from its present lowly position. At present, the priest has no definite professional functions; his professional educ is deficient; he lacks the professional freedom he needs; & he has no professional org. Against this, it is argued that a 'profession' lacks a generally accepted definition, & that pro:- fessionalization may not necessarily lead to a Hs for the priest. He may lose his solid traditional status & acquire one that is very problematic. However, the proposal deserves careful examination, esp in view of the rapidly changing conditions in Dutch Catholicism. I. Langnas.
