Sociol should be introduced into HSch's through teachers of mathematics, history, & literature rather than as an independent subject matter. This should eliminate the thorny problem of selecting special teachers for autonomous sociol courses, & the even thornier task of providing contents for such courses. Sociol is basically a humanistic discipline. Its methods of inquiry are, however, sci'fic rather than intuitive or impressionistic. This pronounced dual character places sociol beyond the grasp of the immature & the poorly educated. The injection of sociol into the teaching of history, literature, & mathematics in HSch's should help to place it within the reach of a larger number of students earlier in life. Also, the infusion of sociol into diverse disciplines might well serve to bring them closer together in the students' mind, because the overlapping of the subject matters should undo some of the dept'al fragmentation of the educ'al experience. Observations made by E. Sibley & others re the quality of undergraduate educ in sociol raise further doubts about the advisability of introducing sociol in secondary Sch's as a subject of instruction. Instead, an infusion of sociol'al concepts & methods of inquiry into established subject matters congenial to sociol should provide the solid basis of a well-rounded educ. AA.
