Samenvatting

An investigation of shift-work foremen (N=158) in charge of production teams in 5 chemical plants, attempting to ascertain the r between their opinion-patterns re their jobs & job situations, & a number of criteria according to which the S's had been previously classified. The methodology consisted of rankordering 21 empirically collected job aspects re their urgent need for improvement. The investigation yielded information re the method to be followed in improving the S's job satisfaction, whether this initially was high or low. Statistical analysis of the results revealed a number of r's, some of which are discussed. Esp important were diff's in the total/sum opinionpattern among S's employed under various wage systems (eg, hourly, weekly, or monthly pay), & among S's employed in diff plants. The influence of the immediate job environments on the formation of the S's opinions proved to be rather strong. This enabled the preparation of a survey of all 34 plants, each with its own special opinion-pattern & relevant considerations. The reliability of the method employed was examined in an indirect manner. AA.
