Samenvatting
An address delivered on Dec 6, 1962 at the U of Amsterdam, of the centennial of the birth of S. R. Steinmetz, one of the founders of sociography. Steinmetz emphasized that sociography was a concrete sci - (in contrast to sociol, which was abstract) - & that one must build a system out of facts. His followers have complained that Steinmetz left no res techniques & no sociol'al Sch. Since WWII, a tendency in the direction of abstract analysis has begun. Yet Steinmetz' contribution, seen as a phase of preparation, is invaluable. (See also SA 0514-B0919). A. Chapman.
