Samenvatting
Questionnaire data are used to compare educational achievement among Dutch adolescents (N = 15,554) living in 1- vs 2-parent families. Analysis shows that students in 1-parent families have lower grades than their peers from 2-parent families once other background factors are eliminated. However, more significant is the variable of parental educational achievement. Children living alone with their fathers scored worse than children living alone with their mothers. The observed negative effect for families headed by mothers has increased since the 1970s. 5 Tables, 9 References. Adapted from the source document.
