Samenvatting

To investigate Dutch & German public opinion toward the presence of ethnic minorities, questionnaire data were obtained in 1988 (N = 500 Dutch & 1,027 German respondents). Dutch opinions regarding the Surinamers & the Turks were remarkably similar, & revealed a high degree of tolerance, compassion, nondiscrimination, & personal acceptance. German attitudes toward the Turks differed substantially from Dutch attitudes. A possible explanation might be the strong moralism in public attitudes toward minorities, which some would characterize as Dutch extremism. 5 Tables, 13 References.
