The need for family support networks
Abstract
This study focuses on support networks used by the families of children with learning disabilities. In order to find out how families use formal and informal networks, parents/primary care receivers were asked to take part in the research, they completed a questionnaire and a number of them participated in in-depth interviews. The study revealed that parents were most satisfied with educational services. Most of them would also appreciate more informal contacts. It is suggested that professionals should aim to help familiesĀ of children with learning disabilities widen their formal and informal support networks.
