10 years of Sociologische Gids

Samenvatting

An estimate of the first 10 years of Sociologische Gids by its English correspondent. The 3 aims of the original Ed's were: (1) to publish short articles; (2) to publish regular reports on sociology in the Netherlands and abroad; and (3) 'criticism.' The articles have since become longer, a development approved by the author. But the disappearance of reports from abroad-the so-called 'windows' on different countries-is deplored. The critical attitude has been, on the whole, successfully maintained. Some particularly good articles are mentioned; but it is felt that there still are great difficulties in the journal's endeavor to maintain a 'middle range' between theory and empiricism. I. Langnas.
